WTH is wrong with doctors? So I'm at the Doc's today, explaining my illness - and he prescribes me these antibiotics, which aren't too dissimilar to the ones I'm on, but are stronger - and I go to him 'I don't have any money at the minute, so -'

and he cuts me off like 'I'm a doctor, it's not really any of my concern'

so I'm like ... shut the fuck up and listen, bitch.... - I was GOING to say 'SO DOES IT MATTER IF I START TAKING THEM TOMORROW, can I continue with my current course...' ... ffs. So I don't have antibiotics because HSBC and Nationwide don't work. *kick the bank*

NO MONEYS.

Well, yes, moneys, BUT NO WAY OF ACCESSING MA MONEYS...

And I need to be better for my interview at Kent Uni.

Shagreen [Apr. 11th, 2008|12:14 pm]
I just got a massive ton of Shagreen through the post. I knew it had arrived because I could SMELL it from upstairs. Non-endangered whiptail stingray skin... mmm...

Who wants an extremely smelly Shagreen-bound-book?

Nobody? Didn't think so. Yuck.

Tonight Ori left for his new home. It's a trial for a couple of weeks to see how he gets on with the new families two African Greys. If it goes well he won't be coming back.

I'm really upset, I've had him for 9 years. The family he's going to live about 30 mins away. I grilled them on all aspects of parrot keeping and they surpassed what I would have hoped for in a new family.

I'm battling with the selfish part of me that wants him with me and the realistic part which knows it's not possible for me to keep him (I've tried every avenue) and that it's best for him.

If, when I've finished Uni, he looks like he wants to come back to me I'll check out my situation. Ori will always be my parrot. There's a big empty space where his cage has been.

A big empty space and a wall covered with parrot food.

Injections [Apr. 5th, 2008|01:18 am]
I've had 10 so far and have 2 more to go! Then, hopefully, I won't get as many horrible diseases in the Jungle.

In fact, I don't even know if I've posted on this LJ yet that I'm going to the Amazon from the 2nd of May to the 16th of July? I've been keeping a journal about it in [info]gap_year if you're interested.

Straight Razor ^_^ [Mar. 31st, 2008|09:09 pm]
Hrm. I just shaved a guy with a straight razor. First I honed the blade on a japanese waterstone (an original natural one), then used a strop to fine-tune the blade. Sure I was nervous, but it's a skill I'm keen to develop - and since I didn't hack his face off chances are I'll have that oppurtunity again.

Didn't help him that I was humming tunes from Sweeney Todd while waving a very sharp razor in his face.

Uniiiiiiiiiversity [Mar. 6th, 2008|09:24 pm]
Got the last of my offers in today. So

York - Politics - Unconditional
Exeter - Politics and Education - Unconditional
Cardiff - Politics - Unconditional

In terms of course York knocks Cardiff out the water.

Exeter has a mediocre Politics course - but has the advantage of having Education as well, which I think could be interesting, so a nice combination there.

I liked Exeter when I went to see it, I liked Cardiff too, but probably Exeter a little bit more - I haven't seen York yet.

York has a better reputation than Exeter

Exeter has lots of snobs. York has Geese.

I dunno.

I'm going to have to pop up to York and have a look.

Employed [Feb. 23rd, 2008|09:45 pm]
New job. In a gift shop. I have to like, close it and count all the money and lock it up and stuff O_O

They didn't even seem to mind that I'd only be around until the end of April.

It's only 12 hours a week. You know what that means? Lots of boogie woogie the rest of the week ^_^

I have my Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever and Rabies jabs on monday. Comes to a nice £300.

Exeter Uni [Feb. 1st, 2008|11:57 am]
I looked sadly at the list of accomodation prices.
"Don't you think it's quite expensive?" I asked, looking at the enthusiastic face of my guide.
"Erm. No", she replied, pushing her versace sunglasses up onto her bleached-blonde messy hair, "no, it's about the same as London."

:( [Dec. 12th, 2007|11:48 am]
So I called up the hospital again, and my high came crashing down. I was threatened with debtors, and told that they won't release my P45 until I've paid them £112. I gingerly pointed out that I don't have £112 on me and that I was hoping to pay that through my tax rebate. She was not impressed. She acted like I'd personally run over her children. I don't see why, I said, 'I don't want any trouble... I think there's been a misunderstanding.' She replied "Well, if you continue not to pay the money back then it won't be you and me talking, it will be you talking to the debtors"

Misunderstand this.

I signed no contract when I joined the hospital. Now I'm at boots I signed a clause which said if they overpaid me I'd pay the money back. Fine. I signed no such contract with the hospital.

They haven't sent me a letter with the breakdown of the money and why I owe it to them.

They didn't mention to me that they wouldn't be able to release my P45 until I paid the money.

I called them up to see how my P45 was coming on as I was given the impression it had already been sent to me.

Employee law is on my side, I don't have £112. All of my money is tied up in equity.

Them witholding my P45 is against the law.

And, to be quite honest, I have no time for rude people.

SURE I don't have a problem paying the money back. I'm just shocked at how it's got to this stage with me waiting for my P45 and them waiting for my money and speaking to debtors about it. I call that a misunderstanding.

I call.... The Tax Office tomorrow morning. *duh duh dunnnnh*

... I'm not going to be threatened U_U

Errr... Does anyone know anything about Tax?
O_o

So, I'm supposed to be on £134.77 a week. Today I was paid for 2 weeks. I expected, therefore to find something to the tune of £269 sitting in my account when I got in. I only found £202. So some £66 has gone missing.

I thought this might be because I haven't been able to obtain my P45 from my previous employer. From what I've been able to ascertain they should have sent it out with my final paycheque - no such thing was forthcoming. I call them up and apparently I'm still on their books - but they WON'T GIVE IT TO ME!

Then I remembered that I was on an 'emergency tax code' at the hospital anyway, though they admit to having my P45.

Does any of that make sense to anyone?

Where's the missing £66? Has it been taxed away?

New job.

Rejection from Bristol. (Expecting same from Warwick and York, but I'm not too fussed, I've got Cardiff and Exeter in the bag)

Spending quarter of a year in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest next year.

Feeling rather excellent to be honest. Except for the massive hole in my arm covered with a cobweb of steri-strips - but even that feels excellent thanks to sodium diclofenac.

Minchin [Oct. 7th, 2007|12:32 am]
Saw Tim Minchin last night (in Aylesbury?!). Excellent gig. Laughed so loud my brains fell out. It's a bit like having J.K Rowling envy - but for an excellent pianist. I want that talent.

Best Comedian Evar.

And - as a challenge - better than Bill Bailey....

"...all candidates also study in detail the Laws of Hammurabi, transcribed for convenience into Assyrian cuniform. The poetic prologue and epilogue are read in their original Old Babylonian cuniform..."
- Detail from Ancient and Near Eastern Studies, University of Oxford.

Um. There must be about 100 dead languages involved in this course.
